Château Capion sits in the heart of Languedoc, in the Terrasses du Larzac appellation—a region that has gained serious attention over the past two decades for its structured and elegant reds. The estate dates back to the 16th century, but its current form took shape in the late 20th century, when serious investment turned it into a standout property. Terrasses du Larzac was officially granted AOC status in 2014, recognising the uniqueness of its cooler microclimate, shaped by altitude and breezes from the Cévennes. Château Capion has since become one of the reference names in the region, often blending tradition with a sharp eye for detail.
This red is a blend of Syrah, Grenache, and Mourvèdre grapes. Deep ruby in colour, the wine opens with ripe blackberries, crushed herbs, and a touch of pepper. On the nose, there’s a savoury edge with subtle earthy tones. The palate is smooth but structured, with gentle tannins and a long finish. It’s balanced, with notes of dark cherry, liquorice, and a light hint of oak. There’s a fresh lift from the altitude, giving it a nice tension and energy. The texture is supple and layered, without being heavy.
Pair it with a wedge of Tomme de Chèvre Grise au Bleu The wine’s depth and herbal tones will complement the nutty, mildly tangy cheese, creating a smooth and satisfying combination.
