Morgon AOC, Le Plateau, Château Grange Cochard, 2022

James Suckling: 92/100

Château Grange Cochard was built in 1759. Jean-Philippe Manchès, a lover of Beaujolais, transformed this old estate into a real jewel of OAC Morgon. The 70-year-old vineyard is located just opposite Château Grange Cochard with a soil composed of sandy, granite and slate deposits. Le Plateau is a red wine made from a selection of Gamay grape varieties. Sorting is conducted by hand prior to vatting, and there is no crushing of the grape bunches. The wine undergoes a traditional semi-carbonic maceration process in the vat, followed by maturation in barrels for a duration of 10 months.

A Morgon wine featuring reassuring black fruit aromas, accompanied by notes of white pepper and sweet, ripe spices on the palate. It offers impressive depth and a long-lasting profile, concluding with a vibrant, fruity finish.

Pair it with soft cheeses and red or white meat!
