Fourme d’Ambert is a traditional French blue cheese known since the Middle Ages and considered one of the lightest blue‑veined cheeses in France.
According to legend, during the Gallo‑Roman period, druids used this cheese to celebrate their cult on the top of the Massif du Forez. Later, it was even used as a form of exchange currency to rent the “jasseries”, the small mountain shacks used as shelters by animals and humans alike, where this cheese was made in summertime.
Produced in Auvergne with cow’s milk, it has a creamy, supple texture with an ivory paste streaked with blue veins, offering delicate buttery flavours and herbaceous notes. Match Fourme d’Ambert with jammed or fresh yellow fruits to create the perfect pairing.
Store in the fridge and consume within a few weeks.
Wine Pairing:
Red wines (Bordeaux, Burgundies)
White wines (Sauternes, Sauvignon Blanc)
Sparkling wines (Champagne, Prosecco)
