Once regarded as a symbol of Italy’s “La Dolce Vita” of 1950s, this clear liqueur is produced with anise and enjoyed as a disgestif.
Sambuca is a clear Italian liqueur that contains distillates of green anise and star anise and has a high sugar content. Although often associated with flaming shots today, Sambuca was once regarded as a symbol of the country’s “La Dolce Vita” era of the 1950s and 1960s.
Popular as a digestif, Sambuca is preferably enjoyed “con la mosca – with fly”! This usually means three coffee beans which are chewed while drinking and consequently neutralise the sweet taste of the Sambuca.
Food Pairing:
Mix well with vegetables (fennels, beetroot, carrots) and fruits (apples, lemons, apricots). Also, coffee and chocolate.
