The Dauphine fig, also known as Violette Dauphine, carries a noble history, having been cultivated at Versailles and enjoyed by royalty, a variety prized for its large, teardrop shaped fruits with reddish purple skin.
Its taste is intensely sweet and jammy, with a rich honeyed flavour and berry like nuances, encasing a tender, pink flesh that is both succulent and satisfying. Enjoy them fresh at room temperature, perhaps with a drizzle of honey, or pair them with soft goat cheese and walnuts on a cheese board. For a perfect pairing, a chilled Sauternes or a sparkling Vouvray beautifully echoes their honeyed sweetness and cleanses the palate with vibrant freshness.
