Couronne Lochoise

Weight: 170g

The history of the Couronne Lochoise is deeply rooted in the area around the medieval city of Loches. Its name is a direct tribute to its place of origin, with “Couronne” meaning crown, referencing its distinctive doughnut shape, and “Lochoise” denoting its home . This iconic cheese is produced by the Fromagerie Freval (Ferme de la Biche), a family farm established in 1985 that has become the guardian of this regional recipe .

The taste is a subtle and sophisticated experience
, starting with a soft, creamy texture that melts on the palate. The flavour is mildly acidic and salty, with a distinct yet gentle “goatiness” and a delicate herbaceous quality reminiscent of the Loire Valley’s rich pastures . As it matures, the creamy interior develops a remarkable texture and taste, often described as reminiscent of buttered pastry .

To fully appreciate it, we recommend serving at room temperature. It is perfect on a cheese board or paired with fresh fruit. For the perfect drink pairing, choose a Loire Valley wine such as a crisp white Sancerre or a fruity red like a Bourgueil or Anjou, which beautifully complement the cheese’s creamy character .
