Pommard 1er Cru AOC, Les Argillières, Domaine Lejeune, 2017

Wine Enthusiast: 94/100

Domaine Lejeune can trace its history back as far as 1783, and no wonder the target is to fashion Pommard in the traditional style, with a solid potential for cellaring and ageing. The method of vinification is ancestral, the grapes are trodden by foot and the wines are neither fined nor filtered before bottling.

This Pinot Noir has a precise nose of red fruit, smoke, and chalk. Lots of red fruits in a forward, approachable style, herbs and leather notes add complexity. There is a serious mineral structure apparent as you get to the finish but completely wrapped in ripe red fruits.
Compulsory decanting (minimum 40 minutes) for this great fine wine. Marvellous pairing of cheeses like l’Ami du Chambertin or Epoisses, it truly reveals itself in meat company, think sirloin and rib or roast pork.
